Chinese Tutors/LLAs

Alejandro, Chinese Tutor/LLA

你好!I am a sophomore in the College of Engineering, majoring in Computer Science. I was born in Ecuador, and lived in China, so I speak Chinese, Spanish, and English. Knowing all these languages at the same time allowed me to learn that there are words in every language that just can’t be translated without losing part of their meaning, and I think that it is amazing! I look forward to working with you in your Chinese language journey!

Hi everyone! I am a senior transfer student majoring in Political Science with a minor in Chinese and Public Policy. I started learning Chinese two years ago to fulfill a language requirement, but I quickly fell in love with it and hope to use it in a future career in either international relations or somewhere in the government. As a native English speaker, I know how hard learning Chinese can be at first, so I am looking forward to working with you all and sharing strategies and tips that have helped me!

大家好!My name is Jay, or you can also call me by my Chinese name 炜杰 (Wěijié). I am currently a senior majoring in Applied Psychology. Chinese is my native language; in addition to English, I have also tried to learn other languages, such as Japanese and Polish. I think languages are unique and beautiful, and the experience of learning a new language is something worth cherishing, not discouraging. This drove me to become a tutor who helps students with similar experiences as mine. I hope to be part of your learning journey, and I look forward to meeting you.

Jojo, Chinese Tutor/LLA

大家好! I am a second-year neuroscience major with a minor in Chinese. I started learning Chinese in my sophomore year of high school and was enamored by both the complexity and beauty of the language. As a Chinese tutor, I hope to instill that same excitement I felt when I first began. As I plan to pursue a career in medicine, communication and cultural competency are important for understanding and empathizing with others. I hope to bring these skills with me as I care for patients from diverse backgrounds. Fun fact: I sing and play three instruments!

Michelle, Chinese Tutor/LLA

你好! I am a senior Biochemistry major who grew up in China. I speak Mandarin and understand some Cantonese. I hope to become a science teacher in the future and plan to use my language skills to connect with students from diverse backgrounds. I live with my family, am the first in my family to attend college, and am a transfer student, so I understand the challenges of navigating school while balancing responsibilities. I enjoy helping students feel confident in Chinese and supporting them as a peer tutor.
